For those of you who don’t know, I am, for the time being, still attempting to make a living as a culture writer/entertainment journalist/freelance blogger during the day when I’m not poring over scholarly journals (Wikipedia pages) doing research for this Substack. It basically means I watch a lot of movies and TV shows, both for work and for leisure, making sure I keep up with what everyone’s talking about. Sometimes the things I watch feature bugs, and that often means that they’re top of mind whenever I’m casting around for a subject to write about for Bugstack. Is this gonna be a regular thing? I don’t know! Could be fun.
I genuinely hope for your peace of mind that you were not on Twitter/X last week when the big Starship Troopers hoopla went down. As far as I can tell it started because of some thread that fundamentally misunderstood the movie, according to everyone else I saw posting about said thread, and then they all argued about it for a little bit. The fallout took about three days to dissipate. Aside from the fact that I feel like this debate happens once every couple of years, it made me realize that I’ve never actually seen Starship Troopers all the way through. Not for any reason. I just never got around to it.
